Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you’re considering your first floristry course or getting ready to join us, you’ll find answers to our most frequently asked questions below.

If there’s anything else you’d like to know, please get in touch.

Who are your courses for?

All of our courses are designed with complete beginners in mind. Whether you're dreaming of a career change, starting your own floral business, looking to freelance for established florists, or simply want to immerse yourself in flowers, you'll be welcomed.

Many of our students come from completely different careers and have never arranged flowers before.

Do I need any previous floristry experience?

Not at all. We start with strong foundations and build your skills throughout the course. Every course combines practical floristry with essential theory, business knowledge and industry insight, giving you the confidence to begin your floral journey.

What style of floristry do you teach?

Our teaching is rooted in modern, sustainable floristry.

We specialise in natural, garden-inspired designs using seasonal flowers, locally grown blooms where possible, alongside carefully selected imported flowers when they enhance creativity or reflect current industry trends.

We are proudly foam free, teaching sustainable methods throughout every course.

While we teach tried and tested professional techniques, we don't believe floristry should be rigid or formulaic. Instead, we encourage creativity and help you develop your own signature style rather than producing identical work.

If you're looking for very traditional, rule-based, foam-led floristry, our teaching style may not be the best fit.

Will I learn the business side too?

Absolutely.

Creating beautiful flowers is only part of becoming a florist.

Our courses cover topics including:

  • Pricing your work
  • Costing and profit
  • Flower sourcing
  • Mechanics and sustainability
  • Branding
  • Marketing
  • Social media
  • Working with clients
  • Freelancing
  • Building confidence
  • Starting your own business

Our aim is to give you the skills to actually earn money from floristry—not just arrange flowers beautifully.

Can I earn back the cost of the course?

That's certainly our goal.

We understand that investing in your education is a big decision.

Our courses are designed to give you the practical skills, business knowledge and confidence to start earning as quickly as possible.

In fact, many florists can recoup the investment from just one wedding or a handful of freelance days once they're established.

While every business is different and we can't guarantee income, everything we teach is designed to help you build a profitable, sustainable floristry career.

What will I leave with?

Depending on the course you've booked, you may leave with:

  • Professional floristry skills
  • Business knowledge
  • Portfolio-worthy floral designs
  • Professional branding photographs
  • Portfolio imagery
  • Confidence to begin your business
  • Industry contacts
  • New friendships
  • Ongoing support from our community

Some courses also include a starter toolkit to help you continue creating at home.

Please check individual course listings for exactly what's included.

Are all materials included?

Yes.

All flowers, tools, sundries and materials required during the course are included in your booking.

You simply need to arrive ready to learn.

Where are the courses held?

Glasgow Flower School is a pop-up floristry school.

Rather than teaching from one permanent location, we carefully select inspiring venues across Glasgow and surrounding areas.

Each course listing will clearly state the venue.

I'm travelling to Glasgow. Can you recommend somewhere to stay?

Of course.

If you're travelling from elsewhere in the UK or abroad, we'd be delighted to recommend accommodation near your course venue.

Just get in touch before booking.

Is lunch included?

Lunch is included on selected courses. Please check the individual course listing to see what's included.

Will photographs be taken?

Some courses include professional photography.

Where listed, we work with professional photographers to capture both the floristry and your creative process.

You may also receive portfolio photographs of your work and personal branding images, giving you beautiful content to launch your business or social media presence.

We'll always let you know in advance if photography is included.

Will you help me with my social media afterwards?

Yes. Once you've launched your new floristry business or social pages, we'll happily share them with our audience to help spread the word and celebrate your new venture.

Who teaches the courses?

We believe the best learning comes from multiple perspectives.

Alongside experienced florists, we regularly invite guest educators and industry experts to teach specialist skills, share their experience and give you valuable insight into today's floral industry.

Every course is carefully curated to give you access to a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.

What happens after the course?

Your journey doesn't end when the course finishes.

All students are invited to our quarterly community meet-ups where you can reconnect with fellow florists, ask questions, share challenges, celebrate successes and continue learning together.

Building a supportive creative community is one of the things we're most passionate about.

Can I become a freelance florist after the course?

Yes. Many of our students want the flexibility of freelancing for studios, event florists and wedding florists.

Our teaching gives you the practical skills, confidence and professional approach needed to begin taking freelance opportunities while continuing to develop your experience.

Can I start my own floral business?

That's exactly what many of our students hope to do.

Alongside floristry techniques, we teach the practical business skills needed to launch your own venture with confidence.

Whether your dream is weddings, events, workshops, installations or everyday flowers, we'll help you build strong foundations.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Klarna is available, allowing you to spread the cost of your course.

Please see the booking page for available payment options.
